Vegan BBQ Jackfruit Pizza

Make your own vegan BBQ Jackfruit Pizza, using our Organic Young Jackfruit and Smoky Barbecue Sauce. 

Originally from Southern India, Jackfruit is a great ingredient to have in the kitchen cupboards. It has the ability to take on bold flavours and imitate the texture of meat, therefore it is the perfect addition to; curries, chillis, burgers, tacos and lots more.


Vegan Cheese

For the BBQ Jackfruit:

1 can of Biona Organic Young Jackfruit, drained

1 tbsp Biona Organic Coconut Sugar

1 tbsp chilli powder

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp cumin

1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

75g Biona Organic Barbecue Sauce

50ml water

Hemp Seed Dressing:

35g hulled hemp seeds

50ml filtered water

1 spring onion, trimmed and roughly chopped

1 garlic clove, minced

1 teaspoon Biona Organic apple cider vinegar

1/4 teaspoon onion powder

1/4 teaspoon sea salt or to taste

black pepper, to taste

For the Pizza:

12 ounces of Pizza Dough

Biona Organic Olive oil for brushing

2 tbsp Biona Organic Barbecue Sauce

1 small red onion, peeled and sliced very thinly into rounds

Handful of coriander


  1. Pre heat the oven to 200c
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the coconut sugar, chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, and cayenne pepper. Add in the jackfruit flesh and toss to coat.
  3. Heat a large frying pan over a medium heat and add the seasoned jackfruit. Sauté for 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce and water and pour it over the jackfruit. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove the lid from the frying pan and use 2 forks to shred the jackfruit. Continue to simmer with the lid off for another 5 minutes or until the barbecue sauce is reduced, stirring occasionally.
  6. Meanwhile, make the hemp seed dressing by combining all ingredients in a high-speed blender and blending on high until smooth. Spoon into an airtight jar and refrigerate until assembling.
  7. Lightly flour a clean work surface and roll out your pizza dough to desired shape and size.Transfer the pizza dough to a pizza peel or maneuverable cutting board and brush the top with approximately 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  8. Brush the top of the pizza with the 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce and spread the jackfruit over the pizza. Then, dot the top of the pizza with the vegan cheese. Top with as much of the sliced red onion as desired and put in the oven for 20 minutes or until brown. Drizzle with the hemp seed ranch and sprinkle with fresh coriander.  Slice and serve immediately.
